PIK2 INAUGURATES THE “GREENBELT FRUIT GARDEN” ON INDONESIA TREE-PLANTING DAY

In commemoration of Indonesia Tree-Planting Day on November 28, 2025, PIK2 officially inaugurated the “Greenbelt Fruit Garden,” a newly developed area within the Greenbelt PIK2 designed to support research, education, and ecological preservation. This zone will function as an R&D center for fruit-bearing trees and increasingly rare lowland endemic species—an important initiative to enhance biodiversity and strengthen ecological resilience within the PIK region.

The inauguration was symbolized by the planting of 500 seedlings as the garden’s initial collection. The presence of the Chairperson of IALI Banten, Ir. Irina Mildawani, MT, Ph.D, the Indonesian Horticultural Professional Certification Body representative Karen Tambayong, Directors of Agung Sedayu Group, and students from Chevalier School made the event even more meaningful. Ir. Irina Mildawani emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, “What we are doing today is not just a ceremonial planting, but a biological investment. Each tree will act as an oxygen producer that absorbs carbon and reduces temperature, an urgent necessity in combating global warming.”

Meanwhile, Ade Yusuf, Landscape Management Director of Agung Sedayu Group, highlighted the garden’s role as a center for learning and endangered plant preservation. “We are restoring rare species to their natural habitat while also introducing complementary species. Our aspiration is for the Greenbelt Fruit Garden to grow into an extraordinary ‘living library’ in the years to come,” he explained.
With this inauguration, PIK2 reaffirms its commitment to viewing trees not merely as landscape elements but as fundamental pillars of a healthy environment—providers of oxygen, stabilizers of microclimates, habitats for biodiversity, and natural water-retention systems. The Greenbelt Fruit Garden is envisioned to become a green recreational space, a hub for community engagement, and a powerful reminder that a single seed can grow into immense environmental benefits for future generations.
