MINISTER OF TOURISM VISITS ALOHA PIK2 IN RECOGNITION OF ITS ACHIEVEMENT AT THE WONDERFUL INDONESIA AWARD 2025 IN THE NATIONAL CLEAN TOILET CATEGORY
Jakarta, December 23, 2025 — The Minister of Tourism of the Republic Indonesia, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, conducted an official working visit to a leading coastal tourism destination Aloha PIK2 as part of a destination inspection ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday season. The visit also served as a formal appreciation for Aloha PIK2’s achievement in securing Second Place in the National Clean Toilet Category at the Wonderful Indonesia Award (WIA) 2025.
The award represents national recognition of Aloha PIK2’s strong commitment to providing public restroom facilities that are clean, comfortable, hygienic, and aligned with sustainable tourism service standards. This achievement underscores the importance of well-managed public facilities as a key indicator in enhancing the overall quality and competitiveness of Indonesia’s tourism destinations.
During the visit, Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana personally inspected the toilet facilities and surrounding support areas within Aloha PIK2. She expressed her appreciation for the destination’s consistent implementation of cleanliness standards and responsible environmental management, emphasizing that clean and well-maintained public facilities play a crucial role in delivering positive experiences for both domestic and international visitors. “I am currently at ALOHA PIK2, a destination that attracts approximately 27 million visitors annually. I have observed the culinary tenants, retail outlets, and children’s play areas, all of which are well maintained and clean. The visitors here are predominantly from Malaysia, Singapore, and China,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Fenny Maria, Head of Tourism Development Center of Agung Sedayu Group, shared her optimism ahead of the year-end holiday period. “We are very pleased to welcome the upcoming holiday season, as visitor enthusiasm has been evident since early December. Our target is to exceed last year’s visitor numbers during this holiday period, with an annual target of approximately 28 million visitors to PIK by the end of 2025,” she explained. Miranda DWK, Advertising & Promotion Director of Agung Sedayu Group, also encouraged the public to support domestic tourism, adding, “Let us travel and explore destinations within Indonesia.”
Minister Widiyanti also appreciated Aloha PIK2 for its strong commitment to sustainability practices. “Every Friday, Aloha PIK2 conducts a ‘Clean Tourism Movement’ known as Friday Clean where waste is collected, plastic waste is sorted and recycled into furniture. Composting initiatives are also implemented to maintain sustainability. We highly appreciate these efforts and encourage all tourism destinations and operators to prioritize cleanliness, safety, and visitor security, while remaining vigilant during extreme weather conditions,” she remarked.
The management of Aloha PIK2 expressed pride and gratitude for both the award and the Minister’s visit. The 2nd Place National Clean Toilet Award 2025 is regarded as the result of collective efforts in maintaining operational standards, routine maintenance, and continuous education of operational teams regarding the importance of cleanliness and visitor comfort.
As part of its commitment to sustainable tourism, Aloha PIK2 consistently implements a range of sustainability initiatives across its operations. One such initiative is the management of organic waste, particularly dry leaves from landscape maintenance, which are processed into compost. This process involves waste collection, shredding, fermentation using molasses and EM4, and reuse of the compost for landscaping within the Aloha PIK2 area.
In addition, Aloha PIK2 operates a recycled water system, where wastewater from kitchen and toilet areas is treated and reused for landscape irrigation. The process includes grease and debris filtration, aerobic decomposition of organic particles using bacteria, disinfection, and final filtration through sand and carbon filters. The recycled water is stored in a 2-cubic-meter underground water tank and distributed through an automatic irrigation system to support the destination’s green open spaces.
Plastic waste management is also carried out through an in-house material sorting system based on categories such as PET and PP plastics. PET bottles are distributed to the Tzu Chi Environmental Preservation Depot, while PP plastics, such as bottle caps and plastic cups are processed in collaboration with recycling partner 4 Good Things into functional products, including furniture and other usable goods. These initiatives reflect Aloha PIK2’s tangible contribution to the circular economy and plastic waste reduction.
Moving forward, Aloha PIK2 remains committed to continuously enhancing public facility cleanliness standards, in line with the Ministry of Tourism’s vision to develop high-quality, competitive tourism destinations that deliver exceptional experiences for visitors.
